To fairly assess someone's presentation, we as a judge need to know in advance what kind of umbrella topic that has been discussed. Let's say if the topic is about "Go Green", then we need to know what kind goals that participant want to communicate through his/her presentation session. Will it be an introduction, informative, or reporting kind of presentation. This will be a valid basis for the judge to build an apple-to-apple assessment.

Assessing the Connectivity of the Purpose and Contents

You can assess whether the presentation content is correlated with presenter's purpose or not. If it's too off-topic, means between purpose and content is not correlated enough then you can determine further about this presenter's capability.

Assessing the Visual of Presentation Slides

Communication is not only assessed verbally, but also in terms of the visuals that being presented. The good visualization of presentation should make things clearer and it's a must to avoid any kind of wordy-slide that just distract audience further more. You can use this visual assessment as indicator whether participant is doing extra miles to attract audience or not

Assessing the Validation of Data

Even though you will not have chance to directly check the validity of the data presented, you can ask the data source or background why the data is presented. This will provide an illustration of how valid a presentation content and can lead to presenter's competence.

Assessing the Communication Method

Communication or how to deliver the presentation is one of the key indicator to determine how well participant is prepared to mastering the whole session. The delivery method can be seen from the intonation, emphasis, speed of speech, or even indirect body language.

Assessing the Dress Code

This factor is not a mandatory (moreover in this millennial era where people tend to dress more casually). But it can be a good indicator to know how far participants understand the context and conditions of the session. If a session is formal and presenter reflect themselves with appropriate and polite dress, it can be a plus value for the presenter. On the other hand, it is also important to know whether there is a specific purpose behind a dress context (for example, because it is presenting the topic of Indonesian cultural wealth, a presenter creatively uses certain regional customary attire).

Assessing the Supporting Aids

If the presenter brings visual aids (can be seen directly) or virtually (when demonstrating the application) which ultimately helps the audience to understand better, then this can be a plus value. Some presenters usually aware that explaining a difficult topic should be followed by direct visual aids. Therefore he/she initiate to bring along props for a clearer explanation.

Any aspect of the assessment you choose, make sure everything reflects the criteria of the best presenter / participant you want. Define with other judges together about what kind of presenter who deserved to be a winner. Do read other DoctorSlide articles for further tips on how to build a good presentation slide.
