Body language is one of the most important factors that determine your presentation session and cannot be avoided by everyone who is presenting. If you are good at controlling the body language then you have a good chance to deliver the message to be easily accepted by audience.

DoctorSlide finds there are at least three factors of the body language that you need to master / control when presenting:

1. Eye Contact (Eye Contact)

Always make sure you look into the audience's eyes when talking about the topic of your slide. Do not turn your back (of the body) on the audience even if you are scare or want to avoid eye contact. Be brave and respect the audience by facing them with friendly eye contact and gesture. If your audience is in large numbers, then you can by focusing on one point (not literally their eyes) of the audience to the other side of the audience randomly. This should be calming you down to interact with large audience.

2. Hand Movement

Hand gesture is kind of reflex movement that we often don't realize. If you are explaining something you can use your hand to utilize the pointer (if any) or point your finger to a particular picture / table on the slide. But avoid excessive hand movements. Also avoid using hand finger to specific audience because it will seem rude (finger to slide is okay, but not to people).

3. Standing/Walking Position

Make sure you have a fixed spot to stand, meanwhile you still allowed to walk towards the audience (if the audience in small size). The trick if you are explaining the advantages and disadvantages of a thing, you can set two positions as a differentiation. For example, you stand on the right side to explain the disadvantages (negative topic) and then you can move to the left position to explain the benefits. This can make it easier for the audience to understand that you have changed the topic psychologically.

You are mastering along the way, hence make sure you are always evaluate what you been through in each presentation session. Feedback can be easily obtained by collecting survey forms that are distributed to the audience at the end of the event. And because feedback is priceless, don't forget to make sure survey form is on your checklist. Goodluck!
